Core life-saving skills for Healthcare Professionals

BOOKING

All courses are run from our training centre at Hatzolah House, 29 Durham St, Raedene.

A MIN of 6 and MAX of 9 students per class is advised.

The duration of the course is 6 hours.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Designed for registered healthcare professionals (Doctors, nurses, paramedics, and allied healthcare practitioners), and as a prerequisite for ACLS and PALS courses.
The course teaches the skills of CPR and choking for victims of all ages, including ventilation with barrier devices, pocket masks, bag-valve-mask devices, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
COURSE CONTENT
The course includes both theoretical and practical components:
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants.
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components.
- Important early use of an AED.
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device & BVM.
- Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR.
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults, children and infants.
LEARNING RESOURCES
- A BLS Provider Student Manual is provided to each participant for review before, during and after the course.
TESTING AND CERTIFICATION
- For successful completion of the course, participants will be expected to obtain a score of at least 84% in the written evaluation and demonstrate practical proficiency.
- On successful completion of this course, HPCSA registered participants will be issued 11 CPD points: (10 regular CEUs+ 1 Ethics), a BLS provider certificate.
- Discovery members will earn 1000 Discovery Vitality miles.
- This course is valid for 2 years.
