ECG project
Sudden Cardiac Death in Adolescents (SCDA) is an extremely scary, but thankfully very rare, phenomenon. SCDA happens to young, and otherwise healthy and active adolescents, both male and female, often during sport.
However, 12 lead ECG testing and interpretation, can pick up the silent cause of SCDA, thereby preventing tragedy before it strikes. Hatzolah has embarked on a project to screen all high school students at the Jewish day schools. The ECGs are reviewed to identify any possible underlying cause of SCDA. A 12 lead ECG is non-invasive, painless and takes no more than a few minutes. Screening is done privately, modestly, and most importantly, confidentially. Male students will be screened by a qualified male practitioner and female students by a qualified female practitioner. Hatzolah has a financial donor for this programme, so can undertake this exercise at no cost to the school or student.
