While at school, I studied biology and became very interested in themedical field. When I got
towitness first-hand how incredibly Hatzolah helpedmy brother when he sliced his forearm
through a glass window, severely cutting through tendons and an artery, I was in absolute
awe. All Iwas able todo at the pointwas to tie a tourniquet, something I'd learnt in the first aid
course at school. I felt totally helpless until Hatzolah's professional responders arrived. From
thatmoment I knewIwanted toplaymypart and servewith this amazing team.
The training I received for BLS was under the mentorship of Shaun Spruch and it was done
with exceptional expertise and clarity. He made the course both stimulating and fun whilst
never losing focus on the vital emergency skills that wewere required tomaster. Our training
is consolidated by monthly CPD training at the Hatzolah house. We focus on a particular area
in emergencymedicine aswell as revise certain skills.
Themaintaining of the skill set however comes bestwhen continuously responding to calls as
well as learning from the more experienced team members on the road. They are always
there to answer any questions, recap after the call, basically whatever it takes to enhance our
service excellence.
As amember of Hatzolah, I have gained a newprofound respect for all those people that dedicate somuch time to volunteer for
this unbelievable organisation, people that have become my family and 100% dedicated to 'LEMAAN HAKLAL AND LEMAAN
HATZOLOSNEFASHOS' saving lives andhelping others.
It's amazingwhen you take calls and laterwalk away realising that if itwasn't for the fast response partneredwith the expertise
of the team, the person may not have been so lucky to survive. To be able to save a person in their moment of need is a real
KiddushHashemandwhere else canone fulfil such amission that often?

During my school years, I would look out the window and see Hatzolah's ambulance and its
teampass by. Knowing the amazing work they did to help the community gave me the spark I
needed to joinHatzolah and fulfil themitzvahof helping the community.
I completedmy BLS training over 4months and every month I partake in Hatzolah's in-house
training to keep up my knowledge and skills. Since I qualified, I've also done an International
Trauma Life Support course, aswell as aDisasterManagement course runbyHatzolah.
In 2014 I also completed an Intermediate Life Support Paramedics course through an outside
training facility and registered as an Intermediate Life Support paramedic (ILS) at the
beginning of 2015.
Hatzolah has givenme a sense of purpose. There is nothing quite like helping a person in need
even if it is just for something small. Sometimes it's just being able to calm a family in distress
by reassuring themthat their dear lovedone is going tobe fine.
And of course, there is also nothing more rewarding than to use my skills successfully and get
a patient tohospital on time knowing that I've done all thatwas needed tohelp save a life.
